The Short Version

Quick answer: Free players earn 3,400 Rift Medals in Portal Panic. Spend them on one epic equipment plus Starry Ore, or skip the epic and take all the cheaper ore packs. Buy the Rocket Backpack first if you lack it. The event ends October 25 and the shop closes October 27, 2026.

Ore is the story this time. Medal prices for ore dropped, so your medals stretch further than in any earlier event.

All numbers here are as of October 2026.

Event Dates and Who Can Play

Portal Panic needs Town Hall 6 or higher. Here are the dates from Supercell's event post.

Date (UTC)What happens
October 8, 08:00Event starts
October 20, 08:00Portal Pendant boost starts, Town Hall 9 and up
October 25, 08:00Event ends, boost ends
October 27, 08:00Trader shop closes

Those two extra shop days matter. You can finish the track on the last day and still shop calmly afterwards.

Don't leave it past the 27th, though. Unspent Rift Medals don't carry into the next event.

How You Earn Rift Medals

You collect Sour Elixir in home village battles. It floats above three random buildings in every base.

Regular battles count. Ranked battles count. Revenge attacks count too.

Sour Elixir fills the event track. The track pays out Rift Medals, event troops and a few extras.

The full free track needs 16,000 Sour Elixir. At that point you get the Sour Elixir Fountain decoration.

A bonus track sits after it. Another 7,000 Sour Elixir earns 200 more medals.

Normal farming covers it. The amount per base grows later in the event, so don't panic if the first days feel slow.

How Many Medals You Get

I read two separate creator breakdowns of this event, and their totals match.

PlayerMedals
Free track3,200
Bonus track200
Free total3,400
Event pass track5,500
Pass owner total8,900

The pass also hands out more ore on its own track than before. It used to give 600 Glowy Ore and 80 Starry Ore. Now it gives 880 Glowy and 85 Starry.

That's 280 extra Glowy Ore per pass. It adds up if you buy passes every event.

Why Ore Is the Big Deal This Time

Supercell rebalanced what ore costs in gems. Medal shop prices are worked out from gems, so ore got cheaper in medals too.

Creators who saw the shop early put it at nearly twice as much ore per medal as the last medal event.

That changes the usual advice. In past events, a free player bought one epic and had little left. Now the leftover medals buy a real pile of ore.

Ore is the bottleneck for most accounts. Equipment sits at low levels for months because Starry Ore runs out first.

So even if you skip every epic, this shop is worth your full medal balance.

The Six Epics in the Shop

Six epic equipment pieces are on sale:

EquipmentHero
Portal Pendant (new)Minion Prince
Rocket BackpackDragon Duke
Snake BraceletBarbarian King
FireballGrand Warden
Rocket SpearRoyal Champion
Frozen ArrowArcher Queen

You can only fit so many in one event. A free player can afford one epic and still buy ore. A pass owner can afford two.

That makes the order you buy them the real decision. The next section walks through it.

Which Epic to Buy First

Here's the order most creators agree on.

  1. 1Rocket Backpack if you don't own it. It doesn't show up in the Hero Journey, so the shop is your only free route.
  2. 2Portal Pendant if your Hero Journey still has epics to give. The pendant isn't in the Journey either.
  3. 3Snake Bracelet, or the Fireball if you love Fireball openers. Both are proven meta picks.
  4. 4Rocket Spear after that.
  5. 5Frozen Arrow last. Most players skip it.

Own all of them already? Then skip the epics and go all in on ore.

Our Portal Pendant guide covers whether the new piece fits your army.

Best Plan for Free Players

With 3,400 medals, three plans make sense.

Plan A, one epic and Starry Ore. Buy one epic from the list above. Spend the rest on Starry Ore packs so you can level it. This is the right call for most free accounts.

Plan B, the super decoration. Swap the epic for the Coin Collector. It looks great, but it won't win a single attack.

Plan C, all ore. Buy all eight Starry Ore packs, all ten Glowy Ore packs, and one Shiny Ore pack. Pick this if you own every epic you want.

Whatever you pick, keep a few medals back. Bonus medals sometimes arrive late and let you squeeze in one more pack.

Best Plan for Pass Owners

With 8,900 medals, you can mix more freely.

The common pick is two epics plus a stack of Starry and Glowy Ore. That covers both new equipment and the ore to level it.

If your hero upgrades take 8 days or longer, swap the ore for Books of Heroes. A book finishes one upgrade instantly, so it's worth more on a long timer.

The same goes for builders. Books of Building or Fighting pay off best on upgrades longer than 12 days.

Shiny Ore is the weak buy. Its medal price is high for what you get, so fill gaps with books instead.

The Five Event Troops

The track unlocks five temporary troops for regular battles:

TroopWhat it does
Totem Thrower (new)A Thrower whose first and every fourth shot drops a stunning totem
LavaloonFlies to defenses like a Lava Hound and drops pups
Witch GolemA Golem mashup built for spam
Royal GhostWalks through walls and stays invisible for 10 seconds
Giant SkeletonTargets defenses and drops a big bomb when it dies

Their level follows your Town Hall. You can't donate them to a Clan Castle.

For fast Sour Elixir, the Royal Ghost snipes the right buildings well. Our Totem Thrower guide covers the strongest of the five.

Decorations Worth Knowing

Three decorations come with this event.

The Sour Elixir Fountain is free. You get it for finishing the free track.

The Portal Staff is the standard decoration in the shop. It costs about the same as a Book of Heroes.

The Coin Collector is the super decoration. Tap it and one of five characters steps out of a portal to grab a gold coin.

None of them affect gameplay. Buy them only after the epic and ore you actually need.

If your village is already maxed, a decoration is a fine way to spend the last medals.

Mistakes to Avoid

A few traps catch players every medal event.

Don't buy the Frozen Arrow because it's cheap or new to you. It rarely sees play.

Don't spend everything on day one. The full list of bonus medals isn't known until the end.

Don't forget the boost window. If you buy the Portal Pendant, test it at max level between October 20 and 25 before you pour ore into it.

Don't wait past October 27. The shop closes and leftover medals vanish.

I checked the last medal event's advice in our Quest Medals guide, and the cheaper ore is the one real change since then.

What to Do After the Event

Once the shop closes, put the new ore to work.

Level the epic you bought to its next stat level first. Stopping one step short of a stat jump wastes ore.

Then plan for Hammer Jam. Creators expect it soon, and books and potions saved now pay off then.

And if you bought new equipment for war, try it on real layouts. You can find a base by image and copy layouts that match the ones you face.

That's the whole event. Farm normally, buy one epic, take the cheap ore, and keep a few medals in reserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Rift Medals can a free player get?

3,400 in total. The free track gives 3,200, and the bonus track adds 200 more after 7,000 extra Sour Elixir. Pass owners get another 5,500, for 8,900 in all.

When does the Portal Panic shop close?

The event ends October 25, 2026, at 08:00 UTC. The Trader shop stays open until October 27 at 08:00 UTC. Spend everything before then, because Rift Medals don't carry over.

Is the Portal Panic event pass worth it?

For anyone who spends, yes. It adds 5,500 medals and more ore on its track than past passes did. With ore cheaper in the shop, those medals buy more than before.

What is the best epic to buy in Portal Panic?

The Rocket Backpack, if you don't own it, because the Hero Journey doesn't give it. After that, the Portal Pendant or the Snake Bracelet. Skip the Frozen Arrow.

Should I buy the Fireball with Rift Medals?

Buy it if you like Fireball openers, since it's the Grand Warden's key epic for them. Our Fireball levels guide shows which levels change its splash. Otherwise, the Snake Bracelet is the safer pick.
