Totem Thrower Guide 2026: Stats, Tiny Totems and Dates

The Totem Thrower is October 2026's temporary troop. Its stats at every Town Hall, how Tiny Totems stun defenses, and the dates you can use it.

The Short Version

Quick answer: The Totem Thrower is a temporary troop for October 2026. It takes 28 housing space and hits ground targets from 6 tiles. Its first throw, then every 4th, drops a Tiny Totem that stuns defenses and soaks damage. You get it in Battle Options (October 1 to 5 and 17 to 21) and a mass event on October 7 and 8.

That's the whole troop in one breath. The rest of this guide covers what the totems really do, how strong it is at your Town Hall, and when it's worth picking over extra loot.

Every stat here is as of October 2026. Temporary troops get tuned between seasons, so treat the numbers as this month's numbers.

What the Totem Thrower Does

He's a big ranged ground troop with a boulder for a friend.

I checked Supercell's season post for the exact wording. It says he deals high damage at 6 tiles range and can target anything on the ground. His first attack, and every 4th attack after that, throws a totem instead of a rock.

That totem does two jobs. It stuns nearby defenses when it lands. Then it stays there as a Tiny Totem, a stationary decoy that defenses waste shots on.

So you're paying 28 housing space for three things at once. You get steady damage from range, short stuns on defense clusters, and a stream of tanks that spawn right where the fighting is.

That mix is what makes him more than a reskinned Thrower.

How Tiny Totems Work

A Tiny Totem is a stationary unit with a lot of hitpoints and a built in timer.

I pulled the totem table from the community wiki. Each totem stuns defenses within 5 tiles when it lands. Then it loses 500 hitpoints every second, whether anything shoots it or not.

That decay sets a hard ceiling on how long a totem can last:

Totem levelHitpointsLongest it can last
13,840about 7.7 seconds
26,720about 13.4 seconds
39,600about 19.2 seconds
412,400about 24.8 seconds

Those are the upper limits, worked out from the decay alone. A totem under fire dies faster.

The stun itself is short. The wiki lists it at a fraction of a second per totem. Don't think of it as a freeze. Think of it as a hiccup that resets a defense's targeting while your army closes in.

Stats at Your Town Hall

The Totem Thrower has 18 levels, and his level matches your Town Hall. A Town Hall 14 player gets a level 14 Totem Thrower. Nothing to research, nothing to upgrade.

Here's the table for the Town Halls that can join the mass event:

Town HallDamage per secondHitpointsTiny Totem level
102953,2002
122973,4002
143303,9002
153554,2003
163954,6003
174305,1004
184505,6004

Two jumps stand out. Town Hall 15 gets a level 3 totem, and Town Hall 17 gets the level 4 totem with 12,400 hitpoints.

At Town Hall 18, each hit lands for 1,125 damage. That's a big number for a troop that never needs a lab slot.

How It Differs From the Regular Thrower

Same range, same swing timer, very different troop.

I compared the two stat tables side by side. Here's what changes:

StatThrowerTotem Thrower
Housing space1628
Movement speed1622
Attack speed2.5 seconds2.5 seconds
Range6 tiles6 tiles
Hitsground and airground only
UnlockBarracks 18, Town Hall 16temporary, any listed Town Hall
ExtranoneTiny Totems

The big one is the targeting line. The regular Thrower can hit air units. The Totem Thrower can't.

He also walks faster. That sounds minor, but a faster pack reaches the core before your Healers or spells run out.

If you already run the Thrower and Healer army, the habits carry over. You funnel the same way. You just get fewer bodies and more stuns.

When You Can Use It in October 2026

He's a temporary troop, so the calendar matters more than the stats.

These dates come from Supercell's Cosmic Curse: Portal Panic season post, published October 1:

DatesEventWhat you get
October 1 to 5Battle Optionspick him as a temporary troop
October 6 to 13Challengetry the season's temporary troops and the Portal Pendant
October 7 to 8Mass Troop Event50 Totem Throwers, Town Hall 10 and up
October 8 to 25Portal Panic Medal Eventtemporary troops among the rewards
October 17 to 21Battle Optionspick him again

The season runs October 1 to 31. After that, expect him to leave the army tab.

If you missed the first Battle Options window, the mass event is your cleanest chance to learn him with zero risk.

The Mass Troop Event on October 7 and 8

For two days, you'll get an army of 50 Totem Throwers. It's open to Town Hall 10 and up.

Mass events are where a troop's real behavior shows. One Totem Thrower drops a totem now and then. Fifty of them drop totems everywhere.

That means stuns stack across the whole base, and Tiny Totems pile up in front of every defense.

Use the two days well. Watch where the first totems land. Watch how fast the pack melts a Scattershot. Then you'll know whether the troop suits your normal army when Battle Options returns on October 17.

It's practice with no trophy cost and no troop cost, which is rare.

Aim the First Throw

The opening throw is always a totem. That's the one throw you control.

Wherever your Totem Throwers first engage, the first totems land. So your deploy point decides which defenses eat the first stun.

Deploy them in range of a defense pair, like an Inferno next to an Air Defense. The opening totems stun both, and the Tiny Totems sitting there pull fire while your pack starts shooting.

Deploy them in front of a storage, and you've wasted your best stun on a building that doesn't fight back.

After that first volley, the 4th attack rule takes over. You can't aim those. They land wherever each Totem Thrower happens to be shooting.

Funnel or Lose the Pack

Like the regular Thrower, he has no preferred target. He shoots the nearest thing.

That's predictable, which is good. It also means he'll happily chew on outside huts while defenses chew on him.

Clear the buildings on both sides of your entry first. Then the nearest targets are inside the base, and the pack walks in.

The funnel matters more with this troop, not less. A Totem Thrower stuck on the edge drops his totems on the edge. That's a stun on nothing and a tank nobody needs.

A good funnel puts both the damage and the totems in the core. A bad one spreads them along the perimeter, where neither helps.

What He Can't Hit

He targets ground only. That's the catch most people miss.

A defending Clan Castle full of air troops is a real problem. Dragons, Balloons and Minions will hover over the pack, and your Totem Throwers can't shoot back.

So plan for the Clan Castle before the pack goes in. Lure it out and kill it with spells, or bring something in the army that hits air.

The same goes for Air Sweepers and air defenses. Those don't attack ground troops, so they don't threaten him. But they're still buildings, and he'll shoot them when they're nearest.

In short, he's a building and ground troop killer. Air troops on defense are your job to handle another way.

Should You Take It Over Extra Loot?

In Battle Options, picking a troop usually means passing on extra loot. So is he worth it?

Take him if you're pushing trophies or practicing for war. A free 28 space troop that spawns tanks and stuns is a strong swap for one or two slots of a normal army.

Take the loot if you're farming at a Town Hall where upgrades are stalled on gold or elixir. A temporary troop helps one month. Loot helps every upgrade after.

A middle path works too. Take him in the first window, learn him in the mass event, then take loot in the second window if he didn't click.

Did the September Buff Change Him?

Yes, and before most players ever used him.

The wiki's history shows the troop was added to the game files on August 31, 2026. Then on September 22, Supercell raised his damage and hitpoints at almost every level.

A few examples from that change:

LevelDamage per second beforeAfter
10270295
14300330
18402450

Hitpoints rose too. Level 15 went from 3,720 to 4,200.

That's a buff before release, so old previews you watched in September may undersell him. The October numbers in the table above are the ones that count.

Where He Fits in Portal Panic

The Totem Thrower isn't the main event this month. The Portal Pendant is.

The Portal Pendant is a new Epic equipment for the Minion Prince. You earn Rift Medals in the Portal Panic medal event from October 8 to 25, then spend them in the Trader. Supercell also boosts the Pendant to max level from October 20 to 25.

The October 6 challenge ties the two together. It lets you try the Pendant alongside the season's temporary troops before the medal event opens.

So here's a simple plan for the month. Learn the Totem Thrower early, while he's cheap to try. Then put your attention on the Pendant once the medal event starts. If you're still choosing equipment for your Prince, the Minion Prince equipment guide covers the current picks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Totem Thrower in Clash of Clans?

It's a temporary troop for the October 2026 season. He hits ground targets from 6 tiles and takes 28 housing space. His first attack and every 4th after it throws a totem that stuns defenses and leaves a Tiny Totem behind to soak damage.

How do you get the Totem Thrower?

You can pick him in Battle Options from October 1 to 5 and again from October 17 to 21. There's also a mass troop event on October 7 and 8 that gives Town Hall 10 and up an army of 50 of them. He's temporary, so he won't stay after the season.

Can the Totem Thrower hit air troops?

No, he targets ground only. That's the biggest difference from the regular Thrower, which hits both ground and air. Deal with an air Clan Castle using spells or another troop before you send him in.

How long does a Tiny Totem last?

A Tiny Totem loses 500 hitpoints every second on its own. At level 4, with 12,400 hitpoints, that's about 25 seconds at most. Defenses shooting it make it crumble sooner.

Is the Totem Thrower better than the regular Thrower?

He trades bodies for utility. He costs 28 housing space against 16, walks faster, and brings stuns and tanks, but he can't hit air. Other temporary troops get ranked the same way in our event troop comparison.
