Ore Price Cut 2026: Is Buying Ore With Gems Worth It?
Starry Ore dropped from 35 to 20 gems and Shiny Ore from 1 to 0.5. What a max epic costs in gems now, where the new prices apply, and when to buy ore.

The Short Version
Quick answer: Supercell cut ore prices for good. Shiny Ore went from 1 gem to 0.5, Glowy from 5 to 3, and Starry from 35 to 20. Maxing an epic equipment now costs roughly half the gems it did. Buying ore with gems is finally fair value, but builders and heroes still come first.
This isn't a sale. These are the new base prices.
All numbers here are as of October 2026.
The Old and New Prices
Supercell posted the change on October 2, 2026, in More Ore for Your Gems. I read it in full.
| Ore | Old price | New price | Cut |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shiny Ore | 1 gem | 0.5 gems | 50% |
| Glowy Ore | 5 gems | 3 gems | 40% |
| Starry Ore | 35 gems | 20 gems | 43% |
Shiny Ore took the biggest cut in percentage terms. Starry Ore took the biggest cut per piece, 15 gems each.
Supercell's reason was blunt. It said the previous prices didn't offer good enough value.
What a Max Epic Costs in Gems Now
Supercell says maxing an epic now costs roughly half the gems. I ran the numbers on one real piece to check.
The Fireball takes 56,060 Shiny, 3,720 Glowy and 480 Starry Ore from level 1 to 27.
| Ore | Amount | Old gems | New gems |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shiny | 56,060 | 56,060 | 28,030 |
| Glowy | 3,720 | 18,600 | 11,160 |
| Starry | 480 | 16,800 | 9,600 |
| Total | 91,460 | 48,790 |
That's 53% of the old cost. Supercell's "roughly half" holds up.
The ore totals come from our Fireball levels guide.
How Much Ore 1,000 Gems Buys Now
Prices per piece are hard to feel. So I worked out what a round 1,000 gems buys at each price.
| Ore | Before | Now |
|---|---|---|
| Shiny Ore | 1,000 | 2,000 |
| Glowy Ore | 200 | 333 |
| Starry Ore | 28 | 50 |
The Starry line is the one to read. 1,000 gems used to buy 28 Starry Ore. Now it buys 50.
That's close to double. And Starry Ore is the piece that usually stops an upgrade.
Shiny Ore doubled exactly, but you rarely run short of it for long. Glowy Ore went up by two thirds.
These are straight divisions of Supercell's new prices. Real offers bundle ore in packs, so check the pack size before you buy.
Where the New Prices Apply
The rollout happens in stages, not all at once.
| Place | Status |
|---|---|
| Trader | New prices since July |
| Ore offers in the shop | Moving over now |
| October medal event shop | Updated to new prices |
| Everything else | Standard after the next game update |
Supercell says it staged it this way on purpose. It didn't want to surprise players who'd just bought ore at the old price.
So if an ore offer still looks expensive, check again after the next update. It should be repriced by then.
The Medal Event Gets More Ore Too
The October medal event, Portal Panic, is the first event with the new prices.
Two things changed there.
First, ore in the medal shop costs fewer medals, because shop prices follow gem values.
Second, the paid event track gives more ore. It used to give 600 Glowy and 80 Starry. Now it gives 880 Glowy and 85 Starry.
At the new gem prices, that extra ore is worth 940 gems per pass.
Our Portal Panic guide covers what to buy with the medals.
Is Buying Ore With Gems Worth It Now?
It's worth it in more cases than before. It's still not the first thing to buy.
Gems do the most when they free a builder or finish a hero. A hero that sits upgrading can't fight, and that costs you attacks.
Ore is different. It never blocks you from playing. It only makes your heroes hit harder.
So here's a fair rule. If your builders and heroes are covered, ore is now a good use of spare gems.
If they aren't, spend there first and let ore wait. The new price doesn't change that order.
Which Ore to Buy With Gems
Starry Ore is the one to buy.
It's the rarest ore in the game, and it's what stops most equipment at a stat level. Shiny Ore comes from almost everywhere: battles, star bonuses, Clan War rewards.
Glowy Ore sits in between.
That makes the math easy. A gem spent on Starry Ore unlocks a level you couldn't reach. A gem spent on Shiny Ore buys something you'd farm anyway in a few days.
One exception: if you're stuck on a big Shiny Ore wall at a high level, a top up can help.
Ore From the Trader
The Trader already used the new prices from July. So the Trader isn't suddenly cheaper this month.
What changed is the comparison. Before, a gem ore offer often looked worse than the Trader. Now offers are moving to the same prices.
Check the Trader each week. It rotates stock, and its ore uses the same gem values as everything else now.
The Trader also takes Raid Medals and gems for many items. Use Raid Medals there before gems where you can.
Our guide on how to get more ore lists every free source too.
Who Gains the Most
Three kinds of players gain the most.
Pass buyers. More ore on the event track, every event, at no extra cost.
Players with spare gems. Free players stack gems from achievements and the Gem Mine. Those gems now go nearly twice as far on ore.
Players maxing a second epic. The first epic per hero gets your ore. The second one used to stall for months. At half the gem cost, finishing it is realistic.
Players who never spend gems on ore gain only from the event track and medal shop changes.
What Didn't Change
Ore amounts per level stayed the same. A level still needs the same pile of ore as before.
Free ore sources didn't grow either. Star bonuses, Clan Wars and the Clan War Leagues pay what they paid.
And gem prices for builder potions, books and hammers weren't part of this post.
I checked for any mention of those and found none.
So the change is narrow. It makes gems and medals buy more ore. It doesn't make the game hand out more ore for free.
A Simple Buying Plan
Here's how I'd use the new prices.
- 1Cover builders and heroes first. Gems that keep a hero in the fight beat ore every time.
- 2Buy Starry Ore with spare gems. It's the ore that blocks levels.
- 3Stop on stat levels. Only spend ore to reach a level that raises the ability. Skip the in between levels when you're short.
- 4Use event medals on ore. The medal shop now gives far more ore per medal.
- 5Ignore Shiny Ore offers unless you're stuck on a big Shiny wall.

Where to Spend the Ore Next
Ore only matters once it's on the right equipment.
Pick one epic per hero that you use in war, and push it to its next stat level. Spreading ore across six pieces leaves them all weak.
Then test it on the bases you'll face. You can browse war base layouts by Town Hall and try your army against them in friendly challenges.
The ore cut is the best value change in a long time. It won't max your account overnight, but it halves the gem bill for the heroes you use most.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Starry Ore cost in gems now?
20 gems per piece, down from 35. Glowy Ore costs 3 gems, down from 5. Shiny Ore costs 0.5 gems, down from 1. So 1,000 gems now buy about 50 Starry Ore instead of 28.
Is the ore price cut permanent?
Yes. Supercell says these are the new base prices, not a sale. The Trader has used them since July, and they become standard everywhere after the next game update.
How many gems does it take to max an epic equipment now?
Roughly half of what it took before. For the Fireball, level 1 to 27 drops from 91,460 gems of ore to 48,790. Other epics follow a similar curve.
Should I buy ore with gems in Clash of Clans?
Only once your builders and heroes are covered. Then Starry Ore is the best buy, since it blocks the most levels. Skip Shiny Ore offers, because you farm plenty of it.
Which equipment should I max first at Town Hall 18?
Start with the epics you use in war every day, and push each one to its next stat level before starting another. Our TH18 equipment guide gives a full order for the top Town Hall.
