Quick Answer

**The best TH17 CWL base for June 2026 is a diamond-style layout with the Town Hall in an isolated island compartment.** It's the most-viewed TH17 war base in our database right now (30 views in the last week), and it's built specifically to deny 3-stars against the dominant TH17 attack strategies: Electro Titan Smash, Root Rider Spam, LavaLoon, and Super Archer Blimp.

**Copy this base layout in-game** — opens directly in Clash of Clans.

What makes it work: isolated Town Hall island, anti-Root-Rider defense spread, anti-Fireball geometry that avoids hub points. Details below.

The Diamond Geometry — Why It Beats Symmetric Layouts

Most TH17 attackers are running variations of three armies in June 2026 CWL: **Electro Titan Smash, Root Rider Spam, and LavaLoon with Super Archer Blimp finish**. All three share a weakness — they need a predictable funnel to deliver burst damage on the Town Hall. Diamond layouts break that funnel by giving the base four equivalent angles of attack with no obvious 'easy side.'

Symmetric square bases at TH17 funnel like this: attacker drops Queen + healers at the weakest corner, Queen Charges to center, drops Eternal Tome, smashes the core. Predictable. 3-star.

Diamond layouts force the attacker to pick a side based on guesswork. Because the Town Hall sits in its own island compartment with no shared walls with other key defenses, even a perfect Queen Charge leaves the attacker still needing to break a fresh compartment to get the Town Hall — costing time, troops, and spells.

Island Town Hall — Why It Specifically Counters Fireball

The Fireball equipment has been the single most consistent Town Hall killer through TH16 and TH17 — and the June 2026 update only slightly nerfed it (better target selection means fewer misfires, not less damage).

**Island Town Hall compartments specifically deny Fireball value** because:

1. There's no adjacent building for Fireball to splash from 2. The attacker has to land Fireball directly on the Town Hall, which requires their Queen to be alive AND within targeting range 3. Even if Fireball hits, the splash damage doesn't take out adjacent defenses (there are none)

Pre-update, Fireball would sometimes target a closer wall corner and roll into the Town Hall for splash. The June update equipment targeting fix specifically prevents that.

**This is also why island TH layouts will get more popular through the rest of 2026** — they exploit the update mechanics rather than fighting them.

Defense Spread for Anti-Root-Rider

Root Rider Spam is the most dangerous TH17 attack right now because Root Riders:

- Push through walls (so wall geometry only slows, doesn't stop) - Have very high HP (single Inferno hits don't 1-shot them) - Get massive value from Healer Tome/Rage stacks

**To counter:** spread your point-defense buildings (Cannons, Archer Towers, Air Defenses, X-Bows) across as many compartments as possible. If they're all in one cluster, a single Rage spell covers them and Root Riders walk through. If they're spread across 6+ compartments, no single Rage spell wins.

This base's diamond layout naturally spreads defenses by geometry. Combined with the island TH, it forces Root Riders to commit to one section while other sections continue laying down damage.

**The new equipment factor:** if you're up against an opponent running the newer Monolith Arrow equipment, the diamond geometry's island TH compartment is the right counter — it denies the Monolith Arrow's bonus damage stacking by forcing the Queen to break a compartment before reaching the TH.

When to Use This vs. When to Rotate

**Use this base for war day 2 through day 5 of CWL.** Day 1, scout with a different layout to see what your opponents bring. Day 6-7, rotate to a different base in your library because opponents have now scouted you.

**Best clan league fit:** Crystal League I through Champion League III. At Master and Legend league, top attackers run more diverse compositions (some intentionally pick anti-diamond strategies), so you'll want to rotate more often.

**Pair with:** Frozen Tornado spell tower (against Root Riders) or Cyclone (against Electro Titans). Avoid Healing Tower at TH17 — it's not strong enough to make up for losing the defensive value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is diamond geometry still good after the June 2026 equipment targeting change?

Yes — and arguably better. The equipment targeting fix prevents Fireball, Seeking Shield, and Spiky Ball from misfiring onto closer buildings. Island Town Hall layouts force these equipment items to commit fully to the Town Hall, exposing the attacker's Queen to the rest of the base while they wait for the equipment to land. Diamond layouts amplify this by making the Queen's path to the Town Hall longer.

Will this base work against Super Archer Blimp?

Yes, with the standard caveat — the island Town Hall is harder for Super Archers to reach because the Blimp drop path leads to dense trap stacks first. The Blimp itself can still reach mid-base, but the Super Archers spawn into clustered Air Defense fire. For full anti-Blimp coverage, ensure your Skeleton Traps are set to 'air' on the natural Blimp path (you can preview it in scouting).

Should I upgrade to TH18 instead of using this?

Only if you've maxed all TH17 defenses AND your hero levels are at least within 5 levels of max. Rushing to TH18 before completing TH17 is the single biggest mistake we see in our user data — you'll get matched against actual max TH18 players and they'll have meaningfully better armies. Stay at TH17 until you can defend at TH17 max, then push to TH18 with full equipment + hero levels intact.

Does this base work for legend league trophy pushing?

No — this is a war/CWL base. For trophy pushing, you want a base with stronger anti-loot geometry (spread storage buildings to slow attackers, not concentrated like a war base). Browse cocbasedrop and filter by 'trophy' type for those layouts.

What if my clan is in Master League — is this overkill?

Master League opponents are still dangerous — many of them are TH18 main accounts running TH17 secondaries to drop down. This base will still defend well at Master. If your clan averages 5-star CWL defenses across the season, you don't need this — but if you've been giving up 2+ triples per war, this layout will tighten that significantly.
