Best Pet for Barbarian King 2026: Spirit Fox or Frosty?
The best pet for the Barbarian King in 2026: Spirit Fox or Frosty for edge walks, Phoenix for a Gauntlet charge, and the picks at Town Hall 14 and 15.

Which Pet Is Best for the Barbarian King?
Quick answer: As of October 2026, Spirit Fox and Frosty are the best pets for the Barbarian King when he walks along the edge of a base. Spirit Fox wins if your Royal Champion doesn't need it. Phoenix suits a King charge with the Giant Gauntlet. Practice on a base from our base finder.
That's the short answer.
The King does two different jobs in most 2026 attacks. He walks the edge to build a funnel, or he charges into the core. Each job wants a different pet, and the pick also depends on which pets your other heroes already hold.
Barbarian King Pet Picks at a Glance
Pick the row that matches the attack you plan.
| His job in the attack | Pet | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Edge walk, Royal Champion runs Phoenix | Spirit Fox | Bursts of invisibility keep defenses off him |
| Edge walk, Royal Champion runs Spirit Fox | Frosty | Frostmites slow the defenses near him |
| Charge into the core with the Giant Gauntlet | Phoenix | One revive after a big burst of damage |
| Town Hall 14 | Mighty Yak | Unicorn and Electro Owl usually go to other heroes |
| Town Hall 15 | Frosty | Phoenix often goes to the Royal Champion |
Each pet goes to one hero per attack. So the King's pick depends on the rest of your army as much as on him.
Spirit Fox: The Pick When He Walks the Edge
Spirit Fox uses Spirit Walk. It turns the Fox and its Hero invisible for a few seconds.
That fits an edge walk. The King spends the first part of the attack clearing buildings along one side, and that's where Inferno Towers and the Monolith lock onto him. A few seconds out of sight can be the difference between a funnel and a dead King.
Players say the same. One Super Witch player wrote that the Fox keeps the King from getting melted by Infernos and the Monolith early in the attack. Another wrote that a King with the Snake Bracelet and the Fox lasts a long time, because the snakes help cover the Fox.
Spirit Fox unlocks at Pet House level 9, which needs Town Hall 16.
Frosty When the Royal Champion Takes the Fox
Here's the catch with Spirit Fox. The Royal Champion wants it too. One player in an April 2026 thread said she runs it in about 90 percent of attacks.
When she has the Fox, give the King Frosty. Frosty slows enemies with icy breath, and small Frostmites jump off him and slow defenses too. He targets ground and air within 4.5 tiles of his Hero.
Slower defenses near the King mean fewer hits on him and on the troops that follow his funnel. One player wrote that Frosty keeps the King alive longer than Phoenix does.
Frosty unlocks at Pet House level 5, which needs Town Hall 15. Our Archer Queen pet guide gives her the Unicorn first, so Frosty is usually free for the King.
Phoenix for a Giant Gauntlet Charge
Phoenix starts as an egg that follows her Hero. When the Hero is about to be knocked out, the Phoenix revives herself and the Hero under a short shield. When the shield ends, the Hero goes down and the Phoenix fights on.
That's one extra life on a timer. It fits a King who charges into the middle of a base, where a big burst of damage lands on him at once. Players in an April 2026 thread said the King does well with Phoenix when he charges into the middle, and that it works better with the Giant Gauntlet.
One player gave a plain reason. The King often gets knocked out at the last crucial second, and Phoenix keeps him up a bit longer.
Phoenix unlocks at Pet House level 8, which needs Town Hall 15. It arrived with the Town Hall 15 update in October 2022.
On a slow edge walk, the Phoenix often waits for a revive that never comes. That's why the Fox and Frosty win there.
Who Gets Phoenix, the King or the Royal Champion?
Usually the Royal Champion. A Royal Champion charge sends her deep into the base alone, and a second life pays off there.
One Town Hall 15 player called Phoenix on the Royal Champion the biggest pet priority at that level. Another wrote that every hero sent in to die wants Phoenix.
So the King gets Phoenix in two cases. You don't bring the Royal Champion, or the King is the hero you send into the core with the Giant Gauntlet.
If neither is true, give him Frosty or the Fox.
Angry Jelly on the King, and Why the Duke Usually Wins It
Angry Jelly is a flying pet with a long range attack. Its ability, Brainwash, forces its Hero to target defenses only, per Supercell's April 2024 update notes. During Brainwash, the Jelly can't be targeted and doesn't trigger traps.
On the King, that keeps his swings on defenses instead of walls and huts. One player named it as an option for a King with the Giant Gauntlet.
There's a catch. Only one hero can take it, and the Dragon Duke usually gets more from it. If the Duke is in your army, he gets the Jelly. If he isn't, the King or the Queen can have it.
Angry Jelly needs Pet House level 10 and Town Hall 16.
Is Mighty Yak Still Worth It on the King?
At Town Hall 14, yes. The Yak deals extra damage to walls, which helps a King who has to open his own path along the edge.
Some Town Hall 15 players still run it. Two roster posts from January and February 2026 had the Yak on the King.
Above that, it falls behind. Wall Breakers and Jump Spells already open paths, and the pet slot does more as invisibility, slows or a revive. Replies in both of those threads told the players to move the King to Frosty.
Diggy for Stuns at Town Hall 18
Diggy burrows underground beside his Hero. He pops up to stun and attack nearby defenses. If his Hero is taken out, Diggy looks for a new Hero to bond with.
One reply in a February 2026 thread put Diggy or Frosty on the King at Town Hall 15. Most other replies there picked Frosty.
The August 2026 update added Diggy levels 11 to 15 at Town Hall 18. That makes him a stronger backup for the King there, but Diggy also suits the Grand Warden and the Royal Champion. Give him to whoever has no better pet left.
His Equipment Changes the Pick
The pet and the gear work as one kit. Here's how his common setups line up with a pet.
| Equipment | Pet that fits | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Spiky Ball and Snake Bracelet on an edge walk | Frosty or Spirit Fox | Players pair this funnel kit with both pets |
| Spiky Ball and Earthquake Boots | Phoenix | One player runs this pair with Phoenix for the last seconds |
| Giant Gauntlet for a charge | Phoenix | A revive when the charge meets the core |
These are starting points, not rules. Your hero levels matter more than any table. Our Barbarian King equipment guide covers the gear itself.
Best Barbarian King Pet at Town Hall 14 and 15
At Town Hall 14, you have four pets: L.A.S.S.I, Electro Owl, Mighty Yak and Unicorn. The Unicorn usually goes to the Queen, and the Owl often goes to the Grand Warden. That leaves the Yak for the King.
Town Hall 15 adds Frosty, Diggy, Poison Lizard and Phoenix. Give the King Frosty. Phoenix usually goes to the Royal Champion at this level, and Diggy is the backup.
Spirit Fox and Angry Jelly wait for Town Hall 16. That's when the Fox becomes his first pick for an edge walk.
What Reddit Players Pick for Him
I read seven r/ClashOfClans threads about hero pets from 2026, and I sorted every reply that named a pet for the King.
Frosty and Spirit Fox came up most. Phoenix came next, mostly for a King who charges with the Giant Gauntlet. The Yak showed up in Town Hall 15 roster posts, and Diggy in two replies.
The most useful thread was an April 2026 pairings review. A player posted a pet for each hero and asked for feedback. The replies split the King three ways: Phoenix for a charge, Frosty for an edge walk, and Spirit Fox when the Royal Champion doesn't need it.
That's the split this guide follows.
Sharing Pets With His Other Heroes
Every hero wants a pet, and no pet can go to two heroes. So decide in this order.
- 1Give Angry Jelly to the Dragon Duke if he's in the army.
- 2Give the Unicorn to the Queen.
- 3Give Sneezy to the Grand Warden at Town Hall 17 and up.
- 4Give the Royal Champion Phoenix or Spirit Fox.
- 5Give the King the Fox or Frosty, whichever is left.
Swap Phoenix to the King only when he's the hero you send into the core. Our pet tier list ranks all 12 pets.
Where These Picks Come From
I checked the Phoenix and Angry Jelly abilities in Supercell's release notes on 30 October 2026. I also read the October 2026 balance changes that day. They don't mention the King or any pet, so nothing in this guide changed with them.
The picks come from the seven Reddit threads above. I didn't run these attacks myself for this guide. If a later update changes a pet or the King's gear, this guide will change with it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best pet for the Barbarian King in 2026?
Spirit Fox and Frosty are the best pets for the Barbarian King on an edge walk as of October 2026. Spirit Fox wins if your Royal Champion runs Phoenix. Frosty wins if she runs the Fox. For a King charge with the Giant Gauntlet, Phoenix is the better pick.
Is Phoenix or Spirit Fox better on the Barbarian King?
It depends on his job. Spirit Fox is better when he walks the edge, because short bursts of invisibility keep defenses off him. Phoenix is better when he charges into the core, because it revives him once under a short shield.
Should Frosty go on the King or the Queen?
Most players give the Queen the Unicorn, which leaves Frosty for the King. Put Frosty on the Queen only when she fights inside the base behind tank troops. Then give the King Spirit Fox or Phoenix instead.
What pet should the Barbarian King use at Town Hall 14?
Use the Mighty Yak. Town Hall 14 has four pets, and the Unicorn and Electro Owl usually go to the Queen and the Grand Warden. The Yak deals extra damage to walls, which helps the King open his own path.
Should the Barbarian King use Angry Jelly?
Only if the Dragon Duke isn't in your army. Angry Jelly's Brainwash forces its hero to target defenses only, and the Duke usually gets the most out of it. Our Dragon Duke pet guide explains why the Jelly is his first pick.
