Best Pet for Dragon Duke in 2026: Jelly, Phoenix or Fox?

The best pet for the Dragon Duke in 2026: Angry Jelly at TH16+, Phoenix with Fire Heart, Spirit Fox for charges, and the one pet players say to avoid.

Which Pet Should the Dragon Duke Use?

Quick answer: Angry Jelly is the best pet for the Dragon Duke at Town Hall 16 and above, because it keeps him on defenses. Phoenix is the second pick, and it pairs well with Fire Heart. Run Spirit Fox when you use a Duke charge with Invisibility Spells. At Town Hall 15, use Electro Owl until Phoenix unlocks.

That's the short version, as of October 2026.

The Duke is a strange hero to pick a pet for. Most heroes just want the pet that adds the most damage or the most survival. He has one extra problem: his best ability can switch off when other flyers get close.

I read three Reddit threads from March to June 2026 where players argued about this exact question. I also checked Supercell's own notes for the pets that came up. The picks below come from those sources, not from a guess about which pet sounds strongest.

Why His Pet Choice Isn't Like the Other Heroes

The Duke's passive is called Royal Rampage. It turns on when there are no other friendly air units within about 6 tiles of him.

While it's on, his damage doubles and his attack speed goes up by 50%. That works out to roughly three times his normal damage per second.

So the real question isn't only "which pet is strongest". It's "which pet helps him without killing his rage".

A flying pet sounds like the worst idea on paper. It's an air unit that sits right next to him all attack. In practice, players report that his own pet doesn't count. More on that in the next section.

If you're new to him, our Dragon Duke equipment guide covers how Royal Rampage works in a full attack.

Does His Own Pet Switch Off Royal Rampage?

Players say no, with one exception.

In a March 2026 thread, one player explained it like this: pets assigned to the Duke don't remove his passive. The exception they gave is when the Duke dies and you revive him while the pet is still alive.

In June 2026, another player wrote that they had just checked, and the Duke still had his rage with the Jelly attached.

Other heroes' pets are a different story. When someone asked about the Phoenix, a reply said his own pet doesn't switch it off, but other heroes' pets do.

That matches how one guide describes the rule. The rage turns on when no other friendly flying units are nearby. A flying pet on your Queen or Warden is just another flyer to him.

Supercell's notes don't spell out the pet rule. So treat this as player reports, and watch his rage effect in your first few attacks.

Pet Unlock Levels at a Glance

The Duke unlocks at Town Hall 15, once your Hero Hall reaches level 9. That's earlier than two of the best pets for him.

PetUnlocks atWhat it does for the Duke
Electro OwlPet House level 2, Town Hall 14A placeholder pet that keeps up with him
PhoenixPet House level 8, Town Hall 15Keeps him in the fight a few seconds longer when he falls
Spirit FoxPet House level 9, Town Hall 16Makes him and itself invisible for a short time
Angry JellyPet House level 10, Town Hall 16Forces him to target defenses only
SneezyPet House level 11, Town Hall 17Players call it the worst option for him

I compared these levels across Supercell's Angry Jelly notes and several pet guides. The Pet House levels matched in every source I found.

One practical point: each pet can only go on one hero per attack. If your Warden already uses the Electro Owl, the Duke can't take it too.

Angry Jelly: The Default Pick at TH16 and Above

Angry Jelly came out in Supercell's April 2024 update. It unlocks at Town Hall 16 with a level 10 Pet House.

Its ability is called Brainwash. According to Supercell's patch notes, it forces the hero it's attached to target defenses only.

Those notes list three more facts.

  1. 1The Jelly can't be targeted or damaged while it's attached.
  2. 2It doesn't trigger traps while attached.
  3. 3Once the hero falls or the ability ends, it becomes a normal troop that can be hit and can trigger traps.

Why does that suit the Duke? He's often your main damage dealer, and he's at his best when he's alone. A pet that sends that damage into defenses, and can't be shot down while doing it, adds a lot.

Players agree. In a June 2026 thread on the best Duke pet, one player listed Spirit Fox, Angry Jelly and Phoenix as the meta options. They added that Jelly and Phoenix are the top two when it's not a Duke charge.

In March, another player put it more bluntly. They called Jelly "by far the best" and Phoenix "definitely the 2nd best".

Phoenix: Second Place, and Better With Fire Heart

Phoenix unlocks at Pet House level 8, which you can reach at Town Hall 15.

Guides describe its job the same way. When its hero goes down, the Phoenix keeps him fighting for a few more seconds.

One March 2026 thread had a clear split. Phoenix was named the best choice at Town Hall 15. For Town Hall 16 and up, the same reply said "angry jelly all the way".

The Phoenix gets more interesting with Fire Heart. Fire Heart makes a fire explosion around him the first time he falls, and it hits everything within 4 tiles.

One player in the June thread suggested exactly that pairing. Their reason: the death damage plus the rebirth can finish off a major defense he already damaged.

Fire Heart took a nerf in October 2026, though. The explosion wasn't part of that nerf, but the healing and bonus hitpoints were. Read our Fire Heart nerf breakdown before you build an attack around it.

Spirit Fox for a Duke Charge

Spirit Fox unlocks at Town Hall 16 with a level 9 Pet House. It turns its hero and itself invisible for a short time.

It's a narrower pick. Several replies in the June thread said the same thing: Fox for charges.

A charge is when the Duke goes in early and clears a path for the rest of your army. Invisibility helps him survive the first defenses he flies past, which is what a charge needs.

There's real high level proof here too. The 15 June 2026 season meta post noted that the number 7 player ran Spirit Fox on the Duke, together with a lot of Invisibility Spells.

If your attack doesn't use a charge, the Fox loses most of its value. Go back to Jelly or Phoenix.

What Should You Use at Town Hall 15?

This is the awkward level. You get the Duke at Town Hall 15, but Angry Jelly and Spirit Fox wait until Town Hall 16.

Here's the order that fits what players recommend.

  1. 1Use Phoenix once your Pet House reaches level 8.
  2. 2Before that, use Electro Owl.
  3. 3Upgrade the Pet House toward level 8 if the Duke is your main hero.

Why the Owl? One player in the March TH15 thread suggested it because it has the same speed as the Duke and doesn't outrun him. A pet that flies ahead of its hero can pull him into trouble.

The catch is your Warden. Our pet tier list ranks the Owl as a Warden pet, and a pet can't go on two heroes at once. If that's you, pick the Duke's pet from what's left.

Why Players Say to Skip Sneezy

Sneezy unlocks at Town Hall 17 with a level 11 Pet House. It's the one pet players clearly warned against for the Duke.

The March TH15 thread gave two reasons.

  1. 1Sneezy does nothing until the Duke is dead.
  2. 2Its boogers do switch off his rage, unlike the Duke's own pet.

One player there called it the worst option for him.

That's a fair point even if you like Sneezy on other heroes. A pet that only works after the Duke falls, and then hurts his passive, fights against how he's meant to be played.

Match the Pet to the Job

There's no single best pet for every army. Pick it by what you need the Duke to do.

Your plan for the DukePet to useWhy
Clear defenses for a funnelAngry JellyHe only targets defenses
Dive deep and probably die therePhoenixExtra seconds, plus the Fire Heart blast
Lead a charge with InvisibilitySpirit FoxHe survives the first defenses on his path
You're at TH15 without PhoenixElectro OwlKeeps pace with him

The first row is the most common case. That's why Jelly sits on top of most players' lists.

If you want to practice the funnel part, pick a layout from our base library and plan where the Duke enters before you attack.

Keep Other Flyers Away From Him

His own pet is safe. Everything else that flies can cost you the rage.

A few habits help.

  1. 1Deploy him on a different side from your air troops when you can.
  2. 2Check which of your other heroes carry flying pets.
  3. 3Send the Duke first, so he's already ahead when other flyers arrive.
  4. 4Watch his rage effect, and note when it drops.

One guide says the rage can come back once nearby air troops move away or die. So a short overlap isn't the end of the attack.

We went through deployment in more detail after the June change in our Flame Blower deployment guide.

How Strong Is the Duke Right Now?

Very strong, at least at the top.

The 15 June 2026 season meta post looked at the top 200 players. Both the Grand Warden and the Dragon Duke showed 100% usage.

The two most used armies were the Duke charge with Super Bowlers and the Flame Blower Hydra. Together they made up 79 of the top 200.

The same post said pets showed great balance, with every hero having two or more viable options. That fits the Duke's picture here: Jelly, Phoenix and Fox all have a real use.

Keep the date in mind. That snapshot came before the July nerf and the October Fire Heart nerf. The pet logic still holds, but his overall strength may have shifted since.

What I Couldn't Confirm

A few things are still open.

  1. 1Supercell hasn't stated the pet rule for Royal Rampage in the notes I read. The "own pet doesn't count" rule comes from player reports.
  2. 2I found no clear player reports on the Greedy Raven with the Duke, so it's left out of the picks.
  3. 3The meta numbers come from one community post in June, not from Supercell.

None of these change the main answer. Jelly first, Phoenix second, Fox for charges, and Owl at Town Hall 15 still match every thread I read.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Angry Jelly turn off the Dragon Duke's Royal Rampage?

Players report that it doesn't. In June 2026, one player checked and said the Duke still had his rage with the Jelly attached. Others say the Duke's own pet never counts, but flying pets on your other heroes do. The one reported exception is reviving the Duke while his pet is still alive.

What is the best pet for Dragon Duke at TH15?

Phoenix, once your Pet House reaches level 8. Before that, players suggest the Electro Owl, because it keeps the same speed as the Duke. Angry Jelly and Spirit Fox both need Town Hall 16, so they aren't options yet. Our pet tier list for every hero shows how the other pets rank.

Is Phoenix or Angry Jelly better for the Dragon Duke?

Most players put Angry Jelly first and Phoenix second. Jelly keeps him on defenses and can't be hit while it's attached. Phoenix is the better pick when you run Fire Heart and expect him to fall deep in the base. At Town Hall 15, Phoenix wins by default because Jelly isn't unlocked.

Is Spirit Fox good on the Dragon Duke?

It's good for one style of attack: the Duke charge. Players in the June 2026 thread said "Fox for charges", and a top 10 player that season paired it with lots of Invisibility Spells. Outside a charge, Jelly or Phoenix gives you more. It unlocks at Town Hall 16 with a level 9 Pet House.

Which pet should the Dragon Duke not use?

Players warn against Sneezy. It does nothing until the Duke is dead, and its boogers can switch off his rage. One player called it the worst option for him. Save it for a hero that doesn't rely on being alone.
