TH16 War Base Layouts Worth Copying in 2026

Five Town Hall 16 war layouts with copy links, built around the Ricochet Cannon and the Firespitter. What each one protects and what each one gives away.

Quick Answer

> Quick answer: Five Town Hall 16 war layouts with copy links, each built around where the Ricochet Cannon sits. That one building decides more about a TH16 base than anything else you place. If you want the easy pick, take the first one and read the leak note under it.

The Building That Decides Your Base

TH16 hands you the Ricochet Cannon, and it isn't a normal cannon.

It fires a shot that bounces to a second target behind the first. Against a line of troops walking the same path it does roughly double the work of anything else you own at ground level.

Which means placement isn't a detail. A Ricochet Cannon facing an open field is an expensive cannon. One facing a corridor that troops must walk down is the best defense on your map.

The Firespitter matters too. Your Town Hall at TH16 shoots fire in an arc and keeps doing it while it burns down. Put it where that arc covers the compartments attackers have to cross, not where it covers empty grass.

Every layout below is sorted by how well it does those two things.

How I Picked These Five

I compared the TH16 shelf of our library on four points before shortlisting.

Does the Ricochet Cannon cover a corridor rather than open ground?

Does the Firespitter arc reach the compartments an attacker has to break?

Are the air defenses spread so no single side reaches all four?

And is this copy link new to our blog? I checked all five against every link we've ever published here, and none of them appear anywhere else on the site.

Corridor Build

The cleanest use of the Ricochet Cannon I found in the library.

The base funnels ground troops into two narrow lanes, and the Ricochet sits looking straight down the longer one. Anything that walks it takes bounce damage the whole way.

The Town Hall is deep, with the Firespitter arc covering both lane exits.

Where it leaks: the lanes are obvious once you've seen them. A patient attacker will build a funnel that avoids both and come through the side instead.

Double Core

Two separately walled cores, with the Town Hall in one and the Eagle Artillery in the other.

It forces a decision. Attackers can't reach both without crossing open ground twice, and the second crossing is where the Ricochet Cannon and both Spell Towers are waiting.

This one's the strongest against Queen Charge openers, because the Queen can only ever be in one half.

Where it leaks: air. A Balloon or Electro Dragon army doesn't care that there are two cores, and the air defense spread here is the weakest of the five.

Air Heavy Build

Built the other way round. Air first, ground second.

The four air defenses sit in a wide diamond with a Spell Tower between each pair. Both Air Sweepers face the corners a Balloon army naturally comes from, which pushes packs into the diamond rather than out of it.

The Ricochet Cannon is still useful here, covering the one ground lane the layout does leave open.

Where it leaks: ground armies have an easier walk than they should. If you're facing Root Riders or a Yeti smash, this isn't your base.

Percentage Denial

Spread wide on purpose, with real gaps between building clusters.

A three star here means reaching every corner of the map, and most TH16 armies run out of clock first. The timer does more defending than the buildings do.

I counted this as the best two star denial shape on the TH16 shelf, though it gives up the first star fast.

Where it leaks: destruction percentage. If your clan compares averages rather than stars, this base will make you look worse than it plays.

The Balanced One

No trick, no specialism, no obvious hole.

Town Hall deep with the Firespitter covering the two natural approaches. Ricochet Cannon on the wider one. Air defenses spread properly. Compartments small enough to cost wall breakers.

It's the layout I'd leave up during a week of Clan War League, because it doesn't hand anyone a repeatable answer.

Where it leaks: nowhere sharply, and nowhere is it the best. A specialist above will beat it against the army that specialist was chosen for.

Loading the Link Without Losing Your Loot

Open the link on the device that has Clash of Clans installed. The game launches and offers the layout with a load button.

Pick a war base slot. Not your home village. War layouts leave storages on the outside as filler, so loading one at home means your loot's gone by morning.

A browser page instead of the game means the game isn't installed on that device.

The link moves buildings and walls. It won't set your traps, it can't raise wall levels you haven't unlocked, and anywhere you haven't built the defense the layout expects, you'll have a gap.

Setting the Ricochet Cannon After You Load

A copy link places the building. It doesn't tell you whether the lane still works on your account.

Walk the base in edit mode and follow the path a ground army would take from each side. If the Ricochet Cannon isn't looking down at least one of those paths, rotate the layout or move the cannon one compartment.

That single check is worth more than swapping between any two bases on this page.

The same goes for the Firespitter arc. If it covers grass, you've wasted your best Town Hall feature.

If you're still deciding what to build next, the TH16 upgrade order covers which defenses pay back their build time first.

Traps Are Still Yours to Place

The layout gives you positions for buildings and nothing else. Your traps stay wherever you last left them.

Pair Giant Bombs on the widest gap in the outer ring, because that's where Hogs and Miners surface.

Put Seeking Air Mines behind the air defenses, not in front. The Balloons worth killing are the ones that survived the first one.

Use the Tornado Trap to hold a pack inside Spell Tower range. That combination ends more TH16 attacks than any wall change.

Our older single TH16 war base breakdown goes through one layout in far more depth than this page covers five.

One habit worth building on top of all this. After a war ends, open the defence replays and watch only the opening thirty seconds of each one. That's when the attacker builds their funnel, and the funnel decides everything that follows. You aren't looking for the moment the base died. You're looking for the corner two different attackers both chose to open. That corner is the real weakness, and it's usually not the one you expected. Move a single Wizard Tower and a single Air Defense towards it, then leave the base alone for another two wars and watch what changes.

And check your traps after every copy. Copied layouts place the buildings, not your trap choices, so that pass takes a minute and it matters.

Which One to Run This War

Mostly ground attackers: corridor build or double core.

Mostly air attackers: the air heavy build.

Clan War League week: the balanced one.

You only need to deny the third star: percentage denial.

Every layout here came out of our base library, which you can filter by town hall level and base type. Supercell's September update notes list the hero equipment changes, and those decide which armies show up against you this season more than any defense buff does.

Save the link before war day rather than during it. A layout you paste under time pressure is a layout with a wall in the wrong place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should the Ricochet Cannon go at TH16?

Facing a corridor, not an open field. Its shot bounces to a second target behind the first, so it earns its value against troops walking in a line. Point it down the longest path a ground army has to take and it does roughly double the work of any other ground defense you own.

Does the Firespitter change where I put my Town Hall?

It reinforces putting it deep. The Firespitter keeps firing in an arc while the Town Hall burns down, so you want that arc covering the compartments attackers must cross. A Town Hall near an edge wastes most of the arc on empty ground.

Are these TH16 layouts good for Clan War League?

The balanced one is. In league play your base sits up for a full week, so a layout with a sharp edge gets attacked the same way seven times. Specialist shapes are better in regular war where you only face one attacker per base.

Will a TH16 layout work if I am TH15 or TH17?

No. Layouts are built around the exact buildings a level has. At TH15 you would have buildings with nowhere to go, and at TH17 your new defenses would have no space reserved for them. Filter by your own level in our base library.

How often should I swap my war base?

After two or three defence replays on the same layout, not after every war. One attack tells you about that attacker. A pattern across several tells you about your base. Change one defense position at a time so you can tell what actually helped.
