Quick Answer

> Quick answer: Five Town Hall 14 war layouts with copy links, sorted by shape rather than by rank. Ring, island, box, spread and hybrid. Each shape trades something specific. Read the two lines under each link before you pick, because the wrong shape against your opponent's army is worse than an average base.

The Two Things That Define TH14 Defence

The Town Hall poison is the first one. When your Town Hall takes damage at TH14 it leaks a poison cloud that slows and damages everything nearby. That turns the core into a place attackers do not want to linger.

So a deep Town Hall's worth more here than at any earlier level. Not just protected. Deep, with the poison overlapping the compartments attackers must cross.

The second is the Pet House. Your Queen gets a pet, and so does theirs. The Unicorn in particular makes a Queen Charge far harder to kill, so the old plan of parking point defenses to snipe her doesn't really work any more.

What beats a pet backed Queen is distance. Make her walk. That idea shows up in four of the five layouts below.

How I Ranked These Five

I compared every TH14 war layout in our library against three measures, then took the best example of each shape.

One, how far a Queen has to walk before she reaches a defense that actually matters. Longer is better.

Two, how many compartments a ground army must break to reach the Town Hall. Four or more is what I wanted.

Three, whether the four air defenses can all be hit from one side. If they can, the layout was cut.

I also checked every copy link against the ones already published on this blog. None of these five have appeared here before.

The Ring

The most common TH14 shape, and common for a reason.

A sealed centre holds the Town Hall and the Eagle Artillery. Around it runs a ring of small boxes, each with one or two defenses. There's no straight path from any edge to the middle.

The ring shape is strong against Hybrid because Miners and Hogs keep resurfacing into fresh fire. It's also the most forgiving if your defense levels are uneven.

Costs you: it's predictable. Good attackers have seen a hundred rings and know the funnel points. Against a top tier opponent this is the shape they are most practised at.

The Island

The Town Hall sits alone in the middle with a gap around it, unreachable without a Jump Spell or a long grind through the surrounding compartments.

That gap is the whole point. Ground troops path around the island rather than into it, which buys the Eagle Artillery and both Infernos a lot of extra seconds.

I counted island builds as the strongest answer to Yeti and Bowler smash at this level.

Costs you: air attacks ignore the gap completely. Balloons and Electro Dragons fly straight over it. If your war's full of air players, take the box instead.

The Box

Everything packed tight into a square with no wasted space and no outer filler ring.

A box wins on density. Every troop that enters is inside multiple defense ranges at once, and splash damage from Scattershots and the Eagle overlaps everywhere.

It's the best anti air shape of the five, because air troops have nowhere to sit where only one air defense reaches them.

Costs you: percentage. A box gives up the first fifty percent quickly because the buildings are close together. It denies the third star and doesn't much care about the second.

The Spread

The opposite idea. Buildings pushed wide across the whole map with deliberate gaps.

Three starring a spread base means reaching every corner, and most armies run out of time before they've run out of troops. The clock becomes your best defense.

It's a two star denial shape more than a three star denial shape, and it's unusually good against Lalo, which wants a tidy path between air defenses.

Costs you: the first star, almost every time. Outer buildings fall fast and the Town Hall is harder to protect at this spacing.

The Hybrid

A tight core with a spread outer band. It tries to take the timer advantage of a spread build and the density of a box.

In practice it's the shape I'd hand to somebody who doesn't want to think about matchups. It hasn't got a catastrophic hole against any of the four common armies.

It's also the easiest of the five to patch, because moving one outer defense doesn't unravel the core.

Costs you: it's second best at everything. A specialist shape above will beat it against the attack that shape was built for.

Loading the Link the Right Way

Open the link on the device that has the game installed. Clash launches and offers the layout with a load button.

Pick a war base slot. That's the step people rush. A war layout loaded into your home village leaves every storage exposed and costs you a night of loot.

If you get a browser page instead of the game, it isn't installed on that device.

The link moves buildings and walls. It doesn't move traps, it won't upgrade walls, and it can't fill in defenses you haven't built yet. A copied layout on a half finished base still has holes where those buildings should be.

What the Shape Does Not Tell You

Shape is the frame. Levels are the substance.

A ring base with level 13 walls and a maxed Eagle beats an island base with level 10 walls every single time. If your defense upgrades are behind, pick the ring or the hybrid. Both tolerate weak spots better than the island does.

The other thing shape hides is what's in your Clan Castle. A well defended castle adds more to a TH14 base than any layout change on this page. Ask for something that survives a poison spell.

If you're still working out what to build next, the TH15 upgrade order shows which defenses carry the most weight once you move up.

Trap Work After You Load

Five minutes here beats an hour of rearranging walls.

Pair your Giant Bombs on the obvious Hog lane. At TH14 that's nearly always the widest gap in the outer ring.

Put Seeking Air Mines behind the air defenses rather than in front of them. Balloons that survive the first air defense are the ones worth killing.

Leave the Tornado Trap where it can hold a pack inside Scattershot range. That combination ends more attacks at this level than anything else in your trap list.

One last habit worth building. After every war, open the replay and watch only the first thirty seconds. That's where the funnel forms, and the funnel decides everything that happens afterwards. If two attackers in a row built theirs on the same corner, that corner is your real weakness, not whatever the base looked like when the timer ran out. Move one defense towards it and leave the rest alone.

Our older single TH14 war base breakdown goes through trap placement tile by tile on one layout.

Picking a Shape for Tonight

Facing mostly ground: island or box.

Facing mostly air: box, then hybrid.

Uneven defense levels: ring or hybrid.

Only need to stop the triple: spread.

No idea what is coming: hybrid.

All five sit in our base library with a few thousand more, filterable by town hall and type. The September update notes from Supercell list the equipment changes that decide which of those armies you will actually meet this season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which TH14 base shape is best overall?

There isn't one, and any page naming a single best shape is guessing. The hybrid's the safest default because it hasn't got a catastrophic hole. The island is stronger against ground, the box is stronger against air, and the spread is stronger at denying a three star while giving up two.

Does the Town Hall poison at TH14 actually change base design?

Yes. It rewards putting the Town Hall deep enough that the poison cloud overlaps the compartments attackers must cross. A Town Hall near an edge wastes it entirely, because troops take the damage after the star's already banked.

Do I need to change my base when my opponent has a pet Queen?

You need distance, not a different shape. It isn't about the layout. Pets make a Queen much harder to kill outright, so the answer is making her walk longer before she reaches anything valuable. That means outer compartments full of storages and collectors, which four of the five layouts here already do.

Can I load these into a Clan War League slot too?

Yes, the war base slot is the same slot CWL uses. Just remember your base sits up for a whole week in league play, so a layout with one obvious weakness gets punished seven times over. Pick the hybrid or the ring for CWL and save the specialists for regular war.

How do I find a base for a different town hall level?

Filter by level in our base library. Layouts are built around the exact buildings a town hall level has, so a TH14 layout loaded at TH15 leaves gaps where your new defenses should sit and buildings stacked where there's no room.
