Town Hall 19: Everything Supercell Has Confirmed

Town Hall 19 is coming and the Guardians are moving off the Town Hall with it. Here is every detail confirmed so far, plus what is still missing.

Clash of Clans Town Hall 19 update information and Guardian changes

Short Answer

> Quick answer: Town Hall 19 is confirmed to be in development, with no release date announced. The headline change is that Guardians move off the Town Hall entirely, so the TH19 Town Hall weapon will be something completely new. Guardians won't be required to upgrade, and no Guardian progress is lost. Supercell also plans to soften the older merged defenses, bring pets into the laboratory with a second researcher, and make older troops like the barbarian and wizard part of real strategies again.

Nothing here has a date on it yet apart from the Elephant Rider, which arrives later this month. Treat every number and level as unconfirmed until release day.

What Is Actually Confirmed

Supercell has been unusually open about the direction of Town Hall 19, and the detail that matters most has nothing to do with new levels. It's a structural change to how the Town Hall itself works.

Since Guardians arrived they've been welded to the Town Hall, which meant your Town Hall weapon and your Guardian progress were the same decision. That ends at Town Hall 19. Guardians get pulled out and given their own home, and the Town Hall weapon at 19 becomes something we haven't seen yet.

The team hasn't settled on where the Guardians will live. A separate building is one option being discussed, some sort of hero flag is another. What they have committed to is that you keep everything you've already levelled, and that more Guardians or more Guardian levels are likely to follow.

I'd read that as a deliberate unlock. Tying two systems together made both of them harder to balance, and splitting them lets each grow at its own pace. It also quietly removes the worst part of the current setup, where pushing your Town Hall meant accepting whatever Guardian state came with it.

The official Clash of Clans blog is still the place a release date will land first, and right now there isn't one.

Guardians Will Not Be Required at Town Hall 19

This is the line worth reading twice, because a lot of players assumed the opposite.

You can upgrade to Town Hall 19 without touching your Guardians. They aren't a gate, they aren't temporary content, and leaving one at level one won't block the upgrade. Supercell said this plainly.

That said, you probably don't want to leave them low. Guardians are strong right now and nothing in the announcement suggests that changes. The point isn't that they've become optional in practice, it's that they've stopped being a hostage to your Town Hall decision.

For anyone mid push, this removes a real planning headache. Previously you had to reason about Guardian levels and Town Hall timing as one problem. Now they're two problems, and you can solve the cheaper one first. If you're weighing what to put your builders on before the update lands, our hero upgrade order guide still holds, because heroes weren't touched by any of this.

My own read is that Guardian levels stay worth chasing regardless. A system that gets more content added to it later is rarely the one you want to be behind on, and the phrasing about more Guardians and more levels was not vague.

The Older Merged Defenses Are Getting Softened

Base builders should pay attention here more than anyone.

Merging has been running long enough that signature defenses now sit all over a maxed base, and Supercell has admitted that's a problem. There are simply too many special buildings for any of them to feel special.

Their stated fix is to let the early mergers fade. The ricochet cannons and multi archer towers that merged back at Town Hall 16 are meant to drift toward behaving like ordinary defenses, while newer merged buildings take over as the powerful ones. Nothing gets deleted, it just stops being the thing your layout is built around.

They also confirmed the merging pattern continues into the future, in the same spirit as the Eagle Artillery being folded into the Town Hall. That one drew criticism because the Eagle lost its signature behaviour on the way in, and the team has acknowledged they want to handle the next one better.

What this means for layouts is straightforward. Any base whose whole defensive identity rests on ricochet cannon placement is on a clock. It won't break overnight, but the buildings you centre a design on in six months probably aren't the ones you centre it on today. Our current Town Hall 18 war meta breakdown shows how quickly those centres of gravity move.

Old Troops Are Getting Pulled Back Into the Meta

The teaser Supercell gave was that they want to make old troops interesting again, and more a part of player strategy. The obvious candidates are the barbarian, the wizard, the giant and the hog rider.

No mechanics have been shared, so anything specific you read about this right now is a guess. What's real is the intent, and it lines up with what they've been doing elsewhere. Troops are still being converted from 2D to 3D models, and troop skins are under consideration once that remodelling work is far enough along.

There's a practical reason to care even before details arrive. Cheap troops with a genuine role change how farming armies get built, and a barbarian that earns a slot in a real attack is worth more to most accounts than another niche high tier unit.

I've been keeping a couple of levels of the old units current for exactly this kind of pivot, and it costs very little to do. Lab time on a barbarian is not the resource you're short of.

One dated item did come out of the same conversation: the Elephant Rider lands later this month. That one is close enough to plan around, unlike Town Hall 19.

A Second Researcher Is Coming to the Lab

The laboratory has been the quiet bottleneck on every account for years, and it's finally being addressed.

Two changes were described. Pets move into the laboratory rather than living in their own upgrade queue, and the lab gains a second researcher so you can run two upgrades at once. The obvious use is one troop and one pet, but nothing forces that split.

For most accounts this is a bigger quality of life win than a new Town Hall level. Builders have been getting help for years while the lab stayed a single lane, and that lane is what actually decides how fast your army catches up after a Town Hall jump.

Worth flagging the honest caveat: no cost, no unlock level and no timing has been shared. A second researcher that arrives at Town Hall 19 helps a very different set of players than one that arrives for everybody.

Battle mode is getting attention too. Supercell said they're working on something that lets you improve your star bonus outside of ranked, which would make ranked genuinely optional rather than optional in name. That change would shift daily farming routines more than any new defense.

What Is Not Coming

Useful to know what to stop waiting for.

Builder base and clan capital have no major content planned. Small improvements keep arriving, in the shape of the third builder, the speed up feature and the capital treasury, but nothing large is queued for either mode. If you've been holding capital gold back for a big release, there isn't one on the horizon.

Campaigns are off the table for the near future as well. Bringing the Elephant Rider from its original campaign into the live game turned out to be far harder than expected, and that has cooled the appetite for repeating the format.

Clan name changes are coming eventually, with two sensible constraints attached. Your clan will stay searchable under its old name so former members can still find you, and there'll be a cooldown before you can rename again.

On cosmetics, the plan leans toward exclusivity after the Shadow Samurai skin did well, legendary sceneries are still being made but are being held back until the artists are happy, and the older hero skin sets will not be caught up to the newer heroes. With a monthly skin cadence and more heroes arriving, that backlog is not getting cleared.

What to Do With Your Builders Right Now

Nothing in this announcement changes the correct play for the next few weeks, and that's the most useful takeaway.

Keep pushing heroes and Guardians. Both hold their value under every change described, and the Guardian split makes their progress safer rather than riskier. There is no scenario in the announcement where levelling a Guardian was wasted.

Be more careful with defensive layouts than usual. A base design leaning hard on ricochet cannons or multi archer towers as its backbone is built on buildings that are explicitly scheduled to lose prominence. Designs built around placement principles rather than one hero building age better, which is the same reason our base finder sorts by how bases actually perform rather than by layout fashion.

Leave a little lab room around the end of the month for the Elephant Rider, since that's the one item here with a real timeframe. Everything else is direction, not a date, and planning your account around an undated Town Hall is how people end up sitting on resources for months.

I'd also treat the second researcher as a reason to stop hoarding elixir. If the lab is about to double its throughput, a full storage on the day it launches is worth considerably more than a half spent queue.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is Town Hall 19 releasing in Clash of Clans?

No release date has been announced. Supercell has confirmed Town Hall 19 is in development and shared design details, but nothing about timing. The Elephant Rider arriving later this month is the only dated item from the same update information.

Do I need to max my Guardians before Town Hall 19?

No. Supercell confirmed Guardians are not a requirement for upgrading to Town Hall 19, and no Guardian progress is lost when they move off the Town Hall. They're still strong, so levelling them is worth it, but they won't block the upgrade.

What happens to the Town Hall weapon at Town Hall 19?

It becomes something entirely new. Guardians are being detached from the Town Hall, so the TH19 weapon will not be a Guardian. Supercell hasn't said what replaces it.

Are ricochet cannons and multi archer towers being nerfed?

Not directly nerfed, but they're meant to drift toward behaving like regular defenses while newer merged buildings become the powerful ones. If your layout depends on them, see how fast defensive centres shift in our Town Hall 18 war meta breakdown.

Is the laboratory getting a second researcher?

Yes, that's the plan, along with moving pets into the laboratory. No cost, unlock level or release timing has been shared yet, so it isn't clear whether it arrives with Town Hall 19 or earlier for everyone.

Is there any new builder base or clan capital content coming?

No major content is planned for either. Supercell will keep making small improvements like the third builder and the capital treasury, but nothing large is queued for those modes.
