Revive Spell Guide COC 2026: When and How to Use It

The Revive spell brings a fallen hero back with up to 75% health. Here is when it beats a Heal or Rage spell, how to cast it now, and when to skip it.

What the Revive Spell Does

Quick answer: The Revive spell brings a defeated hero back into the attack with part of its health, from 60% at level 1 to 75% at level 4. It takes two housing spaces and needs Town Hall 15. Use it on the hero whose job isn't finished yet, and clear the defense that killed it first.

That's the whole spell. The skill is in picking the moment.

Revive is the only spell in the game that brings a unit back from defeat. It doesn't prevent a death like a Heal spell does. It undoes one.

That difference changes how you plan an attack. You're no longer asking how to keep a hero alive at all costs. You're asking where losing it would hurt most.

The Numbers, as of September 2026

I checked the spell's stats before writing this, so here they are in one place:

  • Levels: 4
  • Health on revival: 60%, 65%, 70% and 75% by level
  • Housing space: 2
  • Training time: 6 minutes
  • Town Hall needed: 15

The spell arrived with the Town Hall 17 update. Supercell's Town Hall 17 announcement describes it as bringing a defeated hero back to the attack with some amount of health, available from Town Hall 15.

Those numbers can change with balance updates. Check the in game info screen if a patch lands after this date.

Two housing spaces is the same as a Rage spell. That's the real price of bringing it.

How to Cast It Since the August Update

Casting got easier this summer.

I read the August 2026 update notes, and one line changes how this spell feels in a real attack. You now select the spell and tap the downed hero's pulsing icon. The August update notes list it under quality of life changes.

Before that, you had to drop the spell in the right spot, in the middle of a fight, under pressure. A miss wasted two housing spaces.

Now the target is the icon, not the ground. That removes most of the risk of a bad cast.

It doesn't remove the timing problem, though. The game makes the tap easy. It can't tell you whether now is the right moment.

Which Hero Is Worth Reviving?

Revive the hero with the most work left to do.

That's usually one of two heroes. The first is a hero leading a side push that died before reaching the core. The second is your finisher, the hero meant to clean up the last defenses.

A hero that died at the very end of its path is a poor target. Its job was already done.

Here's a quick test for the moment it falls. Look at what's still standing in front of it. If the answer is the Town Hall, a key defense or the core, revive it. If the answer is a corner of empty buildings, save the spell.

If you're still choosing gear for that hero, our Archer Queen equipment guide covers the most common one.

Revive Versus Heal and Rage

Every spell slot is a trade. Here's how Revive compares with the two spells it usually replaces.

A Heal spell keeps a hero alive through damage. It works only if you cast it before the hero falls.

A Rage spell makes troops and heroes hit harder and move faster. It helps the whole push, not one unit.

Revive does nothing until a hero dies. Then it does something no other spell can.

So think about how your heroes usually die. If they die slowly, a Heal cast early does the job and Revive is wasted. If they die suddenly to a burst you can't react to, Revive is the only answer.

Your replays will tell you which kind of death you get.

Clear the Killer Before You Revive

This is the most common mistake with the spell.

A hero dies to a defense. The player revives it instantly. The hero stands up with 60% health in front of the same defense and dies again.

That's two housing spaces for nothing.

Wait for the threat to change. Let your other troops take out the defense that got the kill, or freeze it before the hero gets up.

The tap to cast change makes this easier, because you don't have to rush the drop. The icon stays there while you deal with the danger.

Revive buys a second life. Don't spend it walking into the first one's grave.

Is Upgrading It Worth the Lab Time?

Each level adds 5 points of health on revival, from 60% at level 1 to 75% at level 4.

That's a real gain. A revived hero with three quarters of its health survives far longer than one with just over half.

Still, Revive only matters in attacks where a hero falls with work left. Spells you cast in every attack come first.

So put it behind your main spells in the lab queue. If you use Revive in most war attacks, move it up. If you bring it once in a while, leave it for later.

The Laboratory is always the bottleneck. Our TH15 upgrade priority guide explains how to order the whole queue.

When Revive Earns Its Slot in War

Clan War League is where the spell makes the most sense.

In a war attack, a single failed push can cost the whole attack. You get one attack per day in league, so there's no retry.

That's exactly the situation Revive is for. It turns a hero death from the end of the attack into a setback.

It makes less sense in regular multiplayer battles. There, the extra space in your spell slots often does more as a Rage or Freeze.

If you're planning a league army, read our TH17 war attack strategy guide and see where a Revive would sit in each plan.

When to Leave It at Home

Revive is a strong spell. It isn't always the right one.

Leave it out when your army doesn't lean on heroes. Some attacks treat heroes as support and win through troop mass. A revived support hero adds little.

Leave it out when you're farming. A farming attack doesn't need a second life for a hero, it needs loot fast.

Leave it out when every spell slot already has a job. If removing a Freeze means your army walks into an unfrozen inferno, the Revive won't save you.

And leave it out when you can't say which hero you'd revive. A spell without a plan is just two empty spaces.

Pairing Revive With Freeze

Freeze and Revive work well together. One makes the other safe.

The pattern is simple. Your hero falls near a strong defense. You freeze that defense. You revive the hero inside the freeze, so it stands up and starts hitting before the defense can fire again.

This matters most against defenses that deal heavy damage to a single target. A revived hero with partial health can't tank that kind of hit twice.

It also works with your other troops. A hero standing back up next to a pack of your own units draws less focus than one standing alone.

Practice the sequence before a war. It's easy to mistime under pressure.

Practice Before It Counts

Don't learn Revive in a league attack.

Friendly challenges cost nothing. Post a layout in clan chat, attack it with Revive in your army, and watch where your hero falls. Then try reviving at different moments.

You'll notice two things fast. First, the best revive moment is later than it feels. Second, some bases kill a revived hero no matter when you cast.

That second lesson matters. It tells you which bases to attack with Revive and which to attack with something else.

Common Mistakes With Revive

Here are the errors that waste the spell most often.

  • Reviving instantly. The hero stands up in front of the same killer.
  • Reviving a hero with nothing left to do. Its path was already finished.
  • Bringing it without a plan. Two housing spaces taken from a spell you needed.
  • Using it to fix a bad path. If a hero walked the wrong way, a second life walks the same way.
  • Forgetting it exists. It's easy to leave it unused and lose the attack with the spell still in your tray.

The last one happens more than you'd think. Keep an eye on your heroes' health bars, and decide in advance what you'll do if one falls.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much health does the Revive spell give back?

As of September 2026, a revived hero comes back with 60% health at level 1, 65% at level 2, 70% at level 3 and 75% at level 4. Balance updates can change those numbers, so check the in game info screen after a patch.

What Town Hall do you need for the Revive spell?

Town Hall 15. The spell arrived with the Town Hall 17 update, but Supercell made it available from Town Hall 15 upward. It takes two housing spaces in your spell slots.

How do you use the Revive spell after the August 2026 update?

Select the spell, then tap the pulsing icon on your downed hero. You no longer have to drop it in the right spot on the ground. Wait until the defense that killed the hero is gone or frozen before you tap.

Is Revive better than a Heal spell?

It depends on how your heroes die. A Heal spell helps a hero survive steady damage if you cast it in time. Revive works after a sudden death you couldn't react to, which a Heal can't fix.

Should I bring Revive in Clan War League?

Often, yes. You get one attack per day in league, and Revive turns a hero death into a setback instead of a lost attack. Plan which hero you'd revive before you start. Our clan war league strategy guide covers the rest of the plan.
