Resource Fest COC 2026: Goblin Builder and Researcher
The Goblin Builder keeps working after the event ends. I checked how the timing works and what to queue in the last hour so you get a free long upgrade.

The Trick That Makes This Event Worth Planning
Quick answer: Hire the Goblin Builder during Resource Fest, then start your longest upgrade in the final hour before the event ends. The Goblin stays and finishes that job after the event is over, so you get days of work from an event that lasted two. Collectors also produce and hold four times as much while it runs.
That last hour rule is the whole event. Everything else is a nice bonus. I compared what two separate event write ups said about it, because it is the detail people get wrong.
I read through how the hire actually works because people kept telling me the Goblin vanishes at the end. He does not. The hire ends. The job he already started does not.
What Resource Fest Actually Does
Two things, and they're separate.
The first is collectors. Production goes up four times and so does the amount they can hold before overflowing. That means you can leave the game alone overnight and come back to full collectors rather than collectors that filled and stopped.
The second is the two Goblins. A Goblin Builder works as an extra builder, and a Goblin Researcher works as an extra lab. Both are hired with gems.
The event is open from Town Hall 8 upwards, so most of your clan can use it, not just the top accounts.
The Gem Cost, in Plain Numbers
Both Goblins price the same way. Roughly ten gems for every day of upgrade time you want them to cover.
So a five day upgrade costs about fifty gems. A ten day upgrade costs about a hundred.
Compare that with finishing an upgrade outright, which costs hundreds or thousands of gems depending on how much time is left. The Goblin is not a rush. He's a whole extra worker at a rush's discount.
That's why the event matters for free to play accounts. A hundred gems is a week of achievements and clan games. A thousand is not.
The Last Hour Rule, Spelled Out
Here's the part that turns a two day event into a two week one.
You hire the Goblin during the event. You then start the longest upgrade you can afford in the final hour before it closes.
When the event ends, the hire period ends, but the upgrade he's already holding keeps running to completion. He finishes the job.
So do not spend your Goblin on a six hour upgrade on day one. That's the mistake. Sit on him, or use him for something short and cheap early, then make sure the big one starts right at the end.
What to Point the Goblin Builder At
The longest thing you can start. That's the rule, and it beats every other consideration.
At high town halls that usually means an Eagle Artillery, an Inferno Tower, a Scattershot or the Town Hall itself. Anything measured in double digit days.
At mid town halls it means walls are the wrong answer and a defense or a storage is the right one. Walls take no builder time worth saving.
And do not point him at a hero. Heroes come out of the hero hall, not the builder queue, so the Goblin cannot touch them.
What to Point the Goblin Researcher At
Same logic, different queue. The longest lab upgrade you have available.
Lab times at the top end are brutal, often longer than the equivalent building. That makes the Researcher quietly better value than the Builder for a maxed out account.
Pick a troop you actually use. A long research on a troop sitting unused in your barracks is the same waste as levelling it normally, just faster.
If you're not sure which troop deserves it, look at what's in your last ten attacks. That's the answer, and it's usually more boring than people expect.
Collectors Are Not the Point, But Do Not Waste Them
The four times boost sounds huge and it's genuinely useful at lower town halls, where collector income still matters.
At Town Hall 15 and above it's close to noise. A collector cycle does not pay for a hero level. Storage raids do.
But the storage capacity increase is worth something even at the top, because it means you overflow less while you sleep.
So collect before bed, collect when you wake up, and otherwise ignore it. Do not build your evening around a collector cycle. If you want your loot to survive the night, browse a war layout that holds instead.
Where Resource Fest Sits in This Season
The September season calendar runs two resource fests, one near the start of the month and a second towards the end.
That second one lands in the same stretch as clan games, which is either a squeeze or a gift depending on how you look at it.
It's a gift if you plan. Clan games rewards include books, and a book plus a Goblin Builder on the same long upgrade is the fastest progress you will make all month.
It's a squeeze if you do not, because both want your attention in the same few days and one of them has a hard deadline.
Stacking It With a Book
This is the combination worth remembering.
A Book of Building finishes an upgrade instantly. A Goblin Builder works through one over days. Using both on the same building is a waste, because the book already did it.
So split them. Book the upgrade you want finished now. Goblin the upgrade you want running in the background.
That's two long upgrades progressing at once, on top of your normal builders. For a free to play account that's the single biggest progress week available in the game.
Timing It Around a Town Hall Upgrade
A Town Hall upgrade is the longest single job most accounts ever queue, which makes it the perfect Goblin target.
The catch is that upgrading your Town Hall drops your war weight and opens a new set of buildings you cannot afford yet. So people put it off.
If you were going to do it anyway, do it here. The Goblin covers the days and your own builders stay free for the new buildings the upgrade unlocks.
The Goblin costs a small fraction of what finishing the same upgrade outright would cost in gems. If you are hovering over the button, this is the week to press it.
Mistakes That Waste the Event
Hiring the Goblin on day one and pointing him at something short. He's gone and you got six hours of work.
Forgetting to hire him at all. It happens constantly, because the event runs quietly and there's no loud reminder.
Starting the long upgrade after the event closes rather than in the last hour. The window is the hire period, not your convenience.
And spending gems on the Goblin when your builders are all already busy on long jobs. If nothing is free to start, the Goblin has nothing to do.
What This Means for Free to Play Accounts
Resource Fest is the event that closes the gap between paying and not paying more than any other.
A hundred gems is reachable without spending. Achievements, clan games, the occasional obstacle clear. Most accounts have that sitting unspent.
Spending it here buys you an extra builder for a fortnight. Spending it on a rush buys you a few hours.
So if you've been hoarding gems with no plan, this is the plan. Two events a month, a long upgrade each time, and by the end of the season you're a builder ahead of where you would have been.
The Checklist for This Week
Clear a builder before the fest starts. A Goblin with nothing to start is a Goblin wasted.
Decide your long upgrade in advance. Look at your queue now, pick the biggest thing, leave it alone.
Set a reminder for the last hour. That is the one moment that matters and it's easy to sleep through.
Hire, start the big one, and let him run past the deadline.
And read the current event notes on the official Clash of Clans site before you commit gems, because the exact boost and the dates shift between seasons. If you want somewhere to spend the time while upgrades run, the clan war league strategy guide is worth an evening.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Goblin Builder disappear when Resource Fest ends?
The hire period ends, but an upgrade he already started keeps running to completion. That is why you start your longest upgrade in the final hour before the event closes. He finishes the job days after the event is over.
How much does the Goblin Builder cost in gems?
Roughly ten gems for every day of upgrade time. A five day upgrade costs about fifty gems and a ten day upgrade about a hundred. That is far cheaper than finishing the same upgrade outright, which is why the event matters most to free to play accounts.
What should I upgrade with the Goblin Builder?
The longest thing you can start. At high town halls that means an Eagle Artillery, Inferno Tower, Scattershot or the Town Hall itself. Do not use him on walls or anything short, and he cannot work on heroes because those come out of the hero hall.
Is the Goblin Researcher better than the Goblin Builder?
For a maxed account, often yes. Lab research times at the top end are longer than most building upgrades, so the same gem cost buys you more work. Pick a troop that appears in your actual attacks rather than one sitting unused.
What town hall do you need for Resource Fest?
Town Hall 8 and above. That covers most of a normal clan, so it is worth telling newer members rather than assuming it is a max account event. The collector boost matters more at lower town halls, where collector income is still a real part of your loot.
Can I use a Book of Building and the Goblin Builder together?
You can, but not on the same upgrade, because the book finishes it instantly and leaves the Goblin with nothing to do. Use the book on one long upgrade and the Goblin on another, so two big jobs run at once. If you need a base that protects the loot while both run, check the tournament layouts.
